SuZanna GonZo Hosts Beautifully Bonkers Bottomless Brunch Bingo at the People’s Park Tavern

Every Saturday | 11am – 2pm | People’s Park Tavern | £28

The latest addition to London’s bottomless brunch scene is a boozy, bingo-fuelled three hours of mayhem at the People’s Park Tavern in Hackney, hosted by ex-cruise ship entertainer SuZanna GonZo…

We’ll be honest we love brunch, booze, bingo and SuZanna GonZo (a.k.a. Katie O’Brien, who received our much-coveted fifth star for her 2014 Edinburgh Fringe show – “character comedy at it’s very best – brave, committed, brilliantly performed and – most importantly – completely hilarious!”). So you won’t be surprised to hear that we recommend a trip to the People’s Park Tavern next to Victoria Park for some smutty bingo, super-tasty food, and lashings of Bloody Mary!

We took some Friends of To Do List (including intrepid photographer and filmmaker Marcus Hessenberg – not, we should make clear, responsible for the iPhone pictures above!) to spend three boozy hours at the People’s Park Tavern, filling up on top brunch nosh – the Full English and Waffles with bacon (and extra sausage, really Ru?) were great – washed down with jugs of Bloody Mary and a few Mimosas.

As the plates were cleared away, SuZanna GonZo and sprung into life, helming a decidedly un-family friendly session of boisterous bingo which kept everyone entertained between trips to the toast station.

The People’s Park Tavern isn’t reinventing the wheel here – bottomless brunches are all the rage, and bingo has been enjoying something of a revival in cabaret circles over the last couple of years. Booking SuZanna GonZo to host is inspired though – there’s never a drop in energy, and she drags even the least adventurous brunchers along for a fun ride – and the food, which can let such concepts down, was really excellent.

Ok, so maybe having to get toast and coffee from a side table feels a bit hotel breakfast buffet – but hey, that toast is endless, and the array of spreads should keep even the most ardent of condiment fans happy.

It’s probably not ideal if you’re not drinking – although the individual breakfast ‘mains’ are available on their own – and it’s definitely not for the easily offended, but there are plenty of libraries or church services you could try if you’d prefer a quiet Saturday with a cup of tea. For everyone else, we definitely recommend you head along to the People’s Park Tavern for a bingo brunch that will make your Saturday morning feel like Friday night all over again!

P.S. Afterwards, why not head out to the beer garden to check out the teepee, and maybe play a round of crazy golf! All part of why the People’s Park Tavern is one of our favourite pubs in London!
